Birmingham Workshop Video

It’s no secret that a brand & business aren’t just created overnight. That’s why understanding what your brand is, and how to market that brand is so important. Cue: Composed | The Art of Styling Workshop. We were lucky enough to sponsor as “workshop video crew” in downtown Birmingham, and snagged some behind the scenes footage.
This one day workshop was led by three of the top lady bosses in the Birmingham area, each with their own set of superpowers in the creative industry. We learned styling from Jessica of Empress Stationery, branding from the branding genius, Emily of Emily Wells Designs (whose recent client landed in Vogue!), and marketing from business & marketing guru Becky of Becky’s Brides.
About the Workshop
When Becky originally asked us if we would be interesting in sponsoring the workshop and filming it, we immediately jumped on board. Even though styling details isn’t a huge part of our job, it’s still something we get to do from time to time, so we were excited to learn more about that from Jessica, (who designed our logo!). Secondly, learning marketing and branding design from Emily & Becky was a dream. The most important takeaway from the workshop video experience was the relationships we got to cultivate in the process.
We loved working alongside Anna, from Anna Godwin Photography, and catching up with her. Miss B ( Megan’s daughter) is OBSESSED with Anna’s two pups, Piper and Scout, so there was plenty for us to talk about. Also, she is just so talented! We can’t wait to work with her again.. Maybe serving a sweet couple getting married??
Lastly, the venue for the workshop video was Bridgestreet Gallery & Loft. It was a dream to film with its white-washed brick walls, wrought iron staircase and beautiful wood floors. We had the opportunity to sit and chat with Sharon Bell, the owner/operator of Bridgestreet, and enjoyed hearing her perspective on how the wedding industry has evolved in Birmingham over the last 10+ years. Workshop Video Process
Planning for video work outside of weddings takes a different type of eye. We try to collect as much information as possible to determine our client’s style, branding, target market, and ultimate goal for their film. In this case, we were working with three feminine brands, with bright+punchy colorings in their work and targeting female business owners. Because of this- we chose to edit our work in a slightly brighter & warmer look, and we filmed the workshop using prime lenses & some tilt-shift to create the bright, clean, dreamy look. As for the soundtrack of the film, we were absolutely inspired by Jessica’s love for all things Pride & Prejudice, and thought the classical song worked perfectly with the overall imagery!
