Venue & Date
Kirby & Justin Ivey’s wedding at The First Baptist Church of Wetumpka was so much fun, y’all. From the morning’s shenanigans, including two sweet little helpers washing the get away vehicle, to a groomsman’s pants being hemmed a good ten inches too short, there were so many smiles to spare! Also, any reception that ends with Karaoke and sparklers is a win in my book.

Meet Kirby & Justin
K & J met through a “dear sweet” co-worker of Kirby’s. She explained to me that “Dawn Lane introduced Justin and I on October 23, 2015 at a Fox Hunter’s party in Fitzpatrick, AL. Justin had been to an Auburn with game with his friends and tailgated with Dawn. Dawn came to work and described Justin as a tall, handsome guy who loved to have a good time… I said “when and where?” Needless to say, we had a blast at the Fox Hunter’s party and ended the night at Grace’s where we sang karaoke all night. I’m pretty sure we sang “Picture” by Sheryl Crowe and Kid Rock over and over, three, maybe four times. After that night, Justin didn’t call me for 4 days, he said he was trying to play hard to get. I had almost given up that he didn’t have as good of time as I did that Friday night. He called and the rest is history. From that moment on our love story began, I knew I had found the one who I had longed to share life with! We’ve enjoyed traveling, lake life, and spending time with our friends and family.”

And if that story wasn’t enough sweet for you, wait until you see their trailer..let’s just say the karaoke didn’t stop at this first meeting…

The Proposal
Kirby said “It was a Sunday afternoon. We had been to church and lunch with my parents. It was just our normal routine. After lunch, we went to Justin’s house where I begged him to let me take my Sunday afternoon nap. As I was laying down he called me into the living room. It took him asking me three times to come in there before I got up. I said “this better be good.” To my surprise, when I turned the corner there he was on one knee with my gorgeous engagement ring. Of course, we cried happy tears and soaked it in for a moment before we called our families. That night, Justin had planned an engagement celebration at Olive Garden in Prattville, where our closest friends and family gathered. It was so simple and perfect for the two of us!” Isn’t that precious? Plus, any engagement that ends up at the OG is fine by me! 😉

The Big Day
I knew we were in for a fun day when I arrived at Abby’s house, where Kirby and her bridesmaids were getting ready. Kirby was calm, laughing, and sipping sangria in monogrammed floral pajamas with her closest friends and family. The fluffy toy pup she and Abby shared in college nestled next to Kirby’s precious grandmother, as she sat watching the girls get ready. Outside, two blond cuties washed the Kubota, getting it spick and span for the soon to be Mr. & Mrs. Ivey to make their exit. Also, her mother’s wedding dress was used to wrap Kirby’s bouquet & create the pillow the spunky ring bearer carried down the aisle. (You’ll get a peek at his ring bearer skills in the video! So cute!)

The guys got dressed at the church. They had a big laugh (and subsequent sigh of relief) as one of the groomsmen went to put on his suit, only to find the pants hemmed like calf-skimmers! Luckily, they were able to let out the hem to the appropriate length, but not before we got a good laugh out of it. I loved seeing Justin interact with his friends and the sweet ring bearer. It was also evident that he was ready to see his bride! He waited patiently as we brought her in for the first look, keeping his back turned so as to not see her until the perfect moment.  The two met in the historic chapel to exchange letters, and in that moment, as they stood on each side of the chapel doors, I could tell that the meaning of their day had fully hit them. They were ready, to say the least!! Seeing such a big guy get emotional reading the letter from his bride makes you realize that love really can bring the biggest of fellas to tears. While filming, I caught myself thinking, “Gosh that man is nuts over his girl!”

Details

The flowers decorating the chapel and the bride’s bouquet were a mix of greenery as well as white and light blush roses, ranunculus and hydrangeas. One personal touch that I thought was so neat was how  Kirby used a part of her Mom’s wedding dress to wrap her bouquet in. They also used part of the dress to make the ring bearer’s pillow. So special! Like any good southern wedding the church and Wetumpka Civic Center doors both displayed the Ivey’s new married monogram.

Can I talk about Kirby’s dress for a second?? Lace, Pearls, & crystals, y’all. It was a gorgeous and fit her perfectly. It had buttons running down the back, which in case you didn’t know..can be difficult to do! Luckily, Kirby’s Momma thought ahead and got a knitting hook to help make buttoning up that gorgeous dress a breeze.

After the ceremony, where the two said their traditional vows and had the Lord’s supper as a married couple, we all made the short drive to the Wetumpka Civic Center. Welcomed in by the band Union Road, K & J enjoyed the rest of the night dancing and soaking in every sweet moment. After cutting the (yummy) cake & enjoying one of the best mashed potato bars I’ve ever had, the bride & groom surprised us all with a song! They sang “Picture” by Sheryl Crowe & Kid Rock, which as you know by now, was the first song they ever sang together. We all loved the performance! I think it should be a yearly tradition! 😉

Dear Kirby & Justin,
Kirby, you said you think that people are just placed in our lives for a reason, and I fully believe that.  I loved getting to catch up with you and some of the other Gams, but mostly I loved seeing you promise your forever to Justin. Justin, I know your love for Kirby is real & I know she thinks the world of you. I truly believe you two have something special! I pray that the Lord will bless your marriage.  I hope you two enjoy your wedding film, it was my pleasure to create it!! Pull it out once in a while and remember the meaning behind that day, and those feelings you had. Also, always say Yes! to kissing your bride. 😉
