Rebecca & David were married on April 22 at the historic First United Methodist Church of Eufaula, and celebrated their marriage at the Shorter Mansion, just a few blocks away from the church. Most of us have seen the movie “Sweet Home Alabama,” right? Well, did you know that this architectural beauty known as Shorter Mansion was featured in that movie? So neat!

Meet Rebecca & David
Rebecca explained to me that these two me while in college. She said “David and I met while at Auburn University. As rising juniors at Auburn, we both remained in Auburn for summer semester. I served as a Camp War Eagle parent counselor, and David took summer classes. Mutual friends introduced us initially. “ Their first “date” was “a baseball game when I asked David to attend a Kappa Delta Atlanta Braves Night social, which happened to be on April 22 (little did we know that was our future wedding date!). After I graduated from Auburn, I began graduate school in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Montevallo. With David still in Auburn completing his engineering degree, we had fewer opportunities to see each other. However, I visited friends in Auburn often for football game weekends and other events. Knowing this, David asked me on a date during one of my Auburn visits. He strategically took advantage of my love for ice cream. Soon, our friendship grew, and we began seeing each other regularly between Auburn and Montevallo. During my last year of graduate school, I moved to Birmingham, and David accepted a job there after his graduation from Auburn.”

The Proposal
R & D’s proposal story is so sweet, and will make any Auburn fan cheer. She told me that “Friday, March 18, 2016, proved to be a special day for us! After work that day, we drove to Auburn to attend a friend’s wedding the following day. We drove separately because of differing schedules for returning to Birmingham. I was unaware that David had the ring in hand and a plan for the evening!”
She said she was a little suspicious of him upon arrival in Auburn, but “the events of the weekend and the rainy Friday night weather put my notions to rest. We had a fun evening at dinner and then took a ride around campus, reminiscing about college days and shared memories. David parked in front of Samford Park on College Street and encouraged me to walk around campus with him. He came prepared with a large umbrella, so how could I resist? After we strolled through campus, our walk ended right in front of Samford Hall. David conveniently needed to tie his shoe – which actually was untied! Down on one knee, David asked me to marry him, and of course, I said yes!”
These two have the sweetest interactions with each other. Add in their precious puppy, Louie, and you’ve got a recipe for the cutest little family. If you don’t believe me, take a look at their sweet engagement session with Mr. Louie from a few weeks back. Louie didn’t make it to the wedding, but I hear he gave his congrats before hand. 😉

The Big Day
I’m just going to go on record to say that Rebecca has the best friends a girl could ask for. Her bridesmaids were having a ball, & oohed and aahed over her ballgown dress. They started the day at Fendall Hall, a historic building on West Barbour Street, while the guys got ready at Lakepoint State Park. Rebecca traveled over to Shorter Mansion to get in her dress.
It was here that I saw one of the sweetest acts of service represented. After buttoning the last silk button and placing the veil on her daughters head, Rebecca’s Mom helped Rebecca into her robin’s egg blue suede heels. They explained to me that this was always their ritual when R would compete in pageants or perform in competitions, she’d get dressed and her Momma would put on her shoes for her. Seeing this I thought, what a great example of how even on a wedding day, a Momma’s job is never done. I also thought it was such a symbol of service, just like how Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, this Momma was serving her daughter by helping her into the most important shoes she’s ever worn.
David and Rebecca had their first look at the St. James Episcopal Church courtyard, directly across from Shorter Mansion. From there, the rest of the day was a fun mix of pictures & family/friends enjoying their time together.
When I arrived to the church for the ceremony, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Rebecca was the third generation to be married there. How special! R & D were perfectly calm as they vowed to love and serve each other until death do they part.
The reception featured great food, gorgeous tablescapes & even a cigar bar. Men in their southern suspenders lounged in this area underneath twinkle lights as ladies perched on classic velvet couches underneath another tent, sipping coffee & sweet tea. Have I mentioned the coffee bar? Y’all..they had the cutest coffee bar with iced and warm coffee, as well as a custom blend in personalized bags for guests to take home as a wedding favor. This coffee lover was impressed!
With the help of the always awesome Simply Tayo Band, the bride & groom and their guests danced the night away. And let me tell you, this crowd could cut a rug. I was having so much fun filming them I didn’t want to leave!
